│ USING THE OFF-LINE MAIL HANDLER │
│ │
│ │
│ The MkQwk mail handler will package all of your unread mail or the mail │
│ starting at a number you specify and download it to your system. If you │
│ read your mail at log-on time or in the messages bases, it will have │
│ been marked as received and you won't get it in your QWK packet. To │
│ take full advantage of the off-line mail you will need a mail reader │
│ such as MegaMail or XRS installed on your computer. │
│ │
│ The commands in the following panels are supported by MKQwk. │

│ Autoscript Option │
│ │
│ Autoscript is just an alternative way of uploading and downloading your │
│ messages. Because it avoids full screen menus it will be easier to use │
│ for those using Scripts to get their mail packets. │
│ │
│ Receive Your Mail in All Areas │
│ │
│ Receive your mail in all areas: Looks for new mail to you in areas you │
│ do not have selected. This allows you to get all your mail, even when │
│ you only wish to follow a few message areas. It only finds mail to your │
│ real name and does not find mail addressed to any handle or alias. │
│ │
│ Flag Messages as Read │
│ │
│ Flag messages as read: Will cause messages to you that are successfully │
│ downloaded to be flagged as having been received. This will keep them │
│ from showing up as mail to you at log-on time. │
│ │

│ Receive Own Messages │
│ │
│ Setting the (O)wn messages option to NO will keep you from getting │
│ messages that you upload to the MKQWK door in your QWK packet. Note │
│ that this is based on mail uploaded and user name. If you enter a │
│ message online under an alias it will still be included in your packet. │
│ │
│ Reset LastRead Message Pointers │
│ │
│ Reset LastRead pointers in all selected areas: This option will allow │
│ you to enter a LastRead message number and will set your lastread │
│ pointers in all areas that you have selected for exporting to that │
│ number. This allows you to re-receive mail, should you ever want to do │
│ that. (Failed transfers do NOT update the lastread pointers, so │
│ generally you will not need to use this option). If the transfer │
│ protocol incorrectly says the transfer was unsuccessful, you will want │
│ to use this option to reset your lastread pointers to avoid getting the │
│ messages again. │

│ │
│ Maximum Messages Limits │
│ │
│ Maximum messages per QWK packet: This allows you to limit the number of │
│ messages you receive in one packet to help you avoid the dreaded "not │
│ enough time to DL" message. │
│ │
│ │
│ Maximum messages per message area │
│ │
│ This allows you to limit the maximum number of messages in a packet that │
│ you receive from one message area. When used with the maximum msgs per │
│ packet option, this keeps you from using it all up in one message area. │
│ │

│ FIDO STYLE NETMAIL │
│ │
│ MKQwk supports Fido-style Netmail even though QWK readers were not │
│ designed to handle it normally. The one thing missing from a normal │
│ message that is required for netmail is the destination address and │
│ flags. │
│ │
│ MKQwk interprets the subject of the message as containing a destination │
│ address if it starts with an "@" sign. It understands both full │
│ addresses as well as a variety of short-form addresses. On messages │
│ exported from the BBS, the subject line will contain the originating │
│ address for netmail areas. This was done to allow you to reply without │
│ entering an address. │
│ │

│ CONFIGURATION MESSAGES │
│ │
│ MKQwk supports both old and new style configuration messages which may │
│ be addressed to MKQwk, Qmail, or most of the other popular Qwk door │
│ names. │
│ │
│ ADD Adds the current message area │
│ DROP Drops the current message area │
│ RESET nn Resets message pointer to message number "nn" │
│ BLTS On/Off Turns bulletins on or off │
│ FILES On/Off Turns new files list on or off │
│ WELCOME On/Off Turns screens on or off │
│ GOODBYE On/Off Also turns screens on or off │
│ │
│ Many QWK readers, such as the MegaMail Reader, can create these messages │
│ on their own when certain options are chosen from the menus. │
